About this project

A sun-beaten stucco home, recoated to take the heat

This Glendora home had spent years facing the afternoon sun on tired, cracked stucco. We recoated the exterior with the TEX-COTE COOLWALL system, a heat-reflective coating built to hold its color in the heat, and finished it in Tailored Tan with vanilla trim.

Weathered tan stucco front elevation with water stains and aged trim before exterior repaint in Glendora
Before Chalky, faded stucco with hairline cracks running across the body and eaves.

What the waterblast uncovered

Once the chalk was washed off, the wall told the real story: more than fifty hairline cracks across the stucco, and an old coating that had stopped right at the dirt line, leaving a weak seam where the wall met the soil.

How the COOLWALL system went on

  1. Wash and patch

We waterblasted the walls and eaves, then filled more than fifty hairline cracks with Flex-Patch, each one feathered flush so it disappears under the topcoat.

  2. Trench at grade

We trenched three to six inches down where the soil meets the foundation, so the coating runs past grade instead of stopping in a weak line at the dirt.

  3. Prime

Twenty gallons of Hi-Reflective Primer went on next, the bonding base the COOLWALL system needs before any color.

  4. Topcoat and trim

Then COOLWALL in Tailored Tan 0239 across the stucco, with Trim-Cote in Hint of Vanilla 0001 on the trim, fascia, and wood at a semi-gloss for crisp edges.

50+ cracks patched
44 gallons applied

COOLWALL is a system, not a coat of paint. It only performs if the surface under it is sound and primed right, so we patch, trench, and prime before any color. Prep is where this finish lives or dies.

Why COOLWALL holds up to the Glendora sun

COOLWALL carries KYNAR infrared pigment. Rather than letting the wall soak up solar heat the way standard latex does, the manufacturer reports the pigment reflects much of it back, so the surface runs cooler and holds its color longer. On a wall that faces the afternoon sun, that is the whole point.

February weather did not cooperate. Rain pushed the crew off the walls more than once, so we ran the work across about two weeks of dry windows rather than rush a coat onto a wet surface. The finished home holds an even Tailored Tan body, crisp vanilla trim, a matched shed, and a coating made for the sun it faces. This is part of our residential exterior coating work across Los Angeles County, including nearby Azusa, San Dimas, and Covina.

Frequently asked questions

Thinking about a project like this?

If this project has you picturing your own home, you're not alone. These are the questions we answer most often for homeowners deciding to move forward, so you know exactly what working with us looks like.

Most exterior repaints of a single-story home this size run about seven to ten working days. This one stretched across roughly two weeks because February rain kept pulling the crew off the walls, and we will not coat over a wet surface. We schedule around dry windows so the coating cures the way it should.

COOLWALL is a coating system, not a single coat of paint. It carries KYNAR infrared pigment, which the manufacturer reports reflects much of the sun's heat back off the wall instead of letting the stucco soak it up, so the surface runs cooler and holds its color longer. On this home it went on over a Hi-Reflective Primer after full crack repair, which is how the system is meant to be applied.

Yes, and that is most of the work. On this project we waterblasted the walls, patched more than fifty hairline cracks with Flex-Patch, and replaced about fifty feet of soft fascia before any color went on. Coating over failing wood or open cracks only hides a problem for a season, so we fix the surface first.

It depends on the size of the home, how much prep and crack repair the stucco needs, and extras like fascia replacement, garage doors, and a shed. This was a 42-square home with full prep, wood replacement, and a complete COOLWALL system finish.
